THE IMPORTANCE OF ONLINE SURVEYS

Today, with this pandemic, many teachers are lagging behind when it comes to adapting the digital revolution. Adding fuel to fire are the problems of inability to improve monitoring and evaluation of quality of education being provided, dropping attendance rates, increasing teacher attrition rates, and a lot more. As a result, more and more educational institutions, including DepEd, are looking at reliable ways to connect with their stakeholders - be it the students, the teachers, the parents, and the community at large - involved and understand how to make the system more efficient. This is where online educational surveys emerge.

Bugo National High School has been participating in answering various surveys from different entities. Often, institutions focus on understanding the student's feedback and pay little attention to their second backbone - the teachers. Yes, the student's opinion matters, but so does the teacher's voice. There are multiple issues that the teachers face on a daily basis. So how do surveys help? Basically, it ensures that the teachers stay happy, engaged, and satisfied so that the institution can benefit from a high-quality staff that is as loyal as it is qualified. Also, a lot of time and energy is being spent on the wrong reasons in educational institutions. This may be due to the absence of a feedback mechanism that tracks progress of students, faculty performance, and quality of educational standards being provided. Surveys bring all the participants in an educational ecosystem on the same page and help drive operations smoothly and effectively.

Addressing the interests/concerns of students, teachers, and parents can help them feel that their opinion is being valued and their suggestions are being acted upon. This will ensure a long-term relationship between the educational institution and its most valued assets, the people that inhabit it day in, day out. This also helps create a positive word-of-mouth and helps maintain the standard of education to its maximum potential.

BUGO NHS IMPLEMENTS BRIDGING PROGRAM THROUGH Project ASPIRE (Accommodating Students with Poor Interest and peRformance in Education)

    Based on the continuous monitoring conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd) in the implementation of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) and through the learners’ results in various assessments, either formative assessments, portfolio of learning outputs, and other learning activities, it was found out that there were still learning gaps identified and that needs were essential to be addressed to the leaners.

    In the leadership of Mr. Roel R. lamberte, school principal, Bugo NHS designed a bridging program called Project ASPIRE (Accommodating Students with Poor Interest and peRformance in Education) to meet the required essential learning competencies and to help learners from dropping out.  The period of bridging the learning gaps and intensifying learning gains started last March 1, 2021 and ended on March 12, 2021.

    The mandate of Department of Education (DepEd) is to allow the school to implement interventions for bridging learning gaps.

    The goal of the project is give learners proper accommodation to meet the National Education Targets and Commitments aligned with the 10-point agenda of the present government which are the following:

  •  Improve the Mastery Level of Learners to 76% and above;
  •  Make education more inclusive and relevant by increasing Access and
  •  Improve holding power of the secondary school principal by decreasing dropouts and school leavers

All teachers submitted the number of identified students who were not been able to complete or meet the requirements on the different subject areas. Then, the students were given Learning Activity Sheets to answer as part of the interventions. Aside from that, they were given another chance to comply or complete their Performance Tasks.

Due to Covid-19 threat, the Face to Face Learning was not been implemented in the school. The teaching and learning is really challenging for both teachers and students.  Supporting student’s success is not always easy. Bridging the gap between school and home can be fraught with challenges and can impact student achievement.

    In a nutshell, communication with parents and the learners were vital instrument to fully implement the program successfully.
